What is an HIE?

A Health Information Exchange (HIE) allows healthcare providers, such as doctors, hospitals, and labs, to securely share a patient’s vital medical history electronically. This digital network ensures that no matter where a patient receives care, their providers have immediate access to accurate, up-to-date health data to make safer and faster clinical decisions.

The data our participants share varies, but the type of data available typically includes Demographics, Diagnosis, Problems, Allergies, Medications, Immunizations, Lab Results, Procedures, Discharge Summaries, Clinical Notes, and Visit Information including locations and dates.

We have a national connection that allows us to connect to HIEs across the region and with federal agencies like the VA and DOD.
